The third SOS Children’s Village is situated outside the town limits of Galle (110 km from Colombo) on 3.5 acres of land in Mampitiya. Galle is the main town of the southern region of Sri Lanka. The Village is 4 km from the Galle town.
SOS Families of Galle moved into their new family homes in 1992. The Village Community consists of 12 Families. Today, 103 children who are the second generation for SOS CV Galle are living in SOS families.
SOS Family Galle was fortunate not to be affected by the Tsunami disaster in 2004 although situated somewhat closer to the sea. In fact they were the ones who were first to provide cooked meals and refreshments to the many children and adults who were housed in a neighbouring school after having lost their homes and families in the Boxing Day disaster.
