Children of SOS Children’s Villages Galle Fly High in Sports!

A sports meet organized by the Divisional Secretariat Office in Bope Poddala took place on the 17th of March 2019, at which the children of SOS Children’s Villages Galle made big achievements. Fourteen year old Methmi Hirushika Ramanayake who is a very athletic girl with interest in netball, badminton, cricket, table tennis and many more, won the under fourteen Sports Championship Trophy which was awarded by the Divisional Secretariat and Provincial Council Member. Methmi Madumika won 1st and 3rd place in 100 and 200 meter Athletics winning gold and bronze medals with certificates respectively. She also won 3rd place in Put Shot winning a bronze medal and certificate.

Methmi was not the only one from SOS who won medals, thirteen year old Sanduni Tharaka won 1st place in Long Jump and was awarded a gold medal and certificate. Darshani Madurika who is fourteen won 3rd place in Put Shot, receiving a bronze medal and certificate. And Saroj Sathmina Kalhara, an eleven year old boy won 2nd place in Long Jump and secured himself a silver medal and certificate.
