SOS Vocational Training Centre Monaragala

The SOS Vocational Training Centre in Monaragala is facilitated with all the equipment it needs to provide a complete and comprehensive vocational training for all courses it provides. Located in Maduruketiya, Monaragala, this SOS Vocational Training Centre was established on 22nd of January 2007 with the aim of supporting youth from families that are on the verge of breaking down due to various economic, financial, and psychosocial reasons. This vocational training centre also provides courses for youth who grew up at SOS Children’s Villages, in order to give them good career opportunities of their choice.

Automobile Mechanic

This is a one year vocational training course which covers many aspects of automobile mechanics such as repair of engine cooling system, repair of petrol and diesel fuel system, engine over-hauling, wheel alignment and balancing, repair of conventional breaking and steering system, and many more subjects that are needed in order to be an effective automobile mechanic. Classroom sessions continue throughout the twelve month period, where all theoretical and practical aspects of the subject are covered. Upon successful completion of the one year course, the student will be awarded the NVQ Level 3 certificate. The student is later allocated to an organisation or a workshop for on-the-job training where they will put to practice what they have learnt.

Welder

This is a seven month vocational training course which covers many aspects welding such as metal arc welding in all positions, cutting and welding steel plates using Oxy Acetylene, soldering, and many more subjects that are needed in order to be an effective welder. Theoretical and practical training is completed within this seven month period. Upon successful completion of the seven month course, the student will be awarded the NVQ Level 3 certificate. The student is later allocated to an organisation or a workshop for on-the-job training where they will put to practice what they have learnt.

Wood Craftsman

This is a one year vocational training course which covers many aspects of wood craftsmanship such as furniture making using solid wood, wood-based boards, furniture finishing and touch-up, and many more subjects that are needed in order to be an effective wood craftsman. Classroom sessions continue throughout the twelve month period, where all theoretical and practical aspects of the subject are covered. Upon successful completion of the one year course, the student will be awarded the NVQ Level 3 certificate. The student is later allocated to an organisation or a workshop for on-the-job training where they will put to practice what they have learnt.

This is a six month vocational training course which cover many aspects of computing such as Microsoft Office Packages, E-Mail, Internet, Database Management, and many more subjects that are needed to be an effective IT Assistant. Theoretical and practical training is completed within this six month period. Upon successful completion of the six month course, the student will be awarded the NVQ Level 3 certificate. The student is later allocated to an organisation for on-the-job training where they will put to practice what they have learnt.

This is a six month vocational training course which covers many aspects of baking such as making different varieties of pastries, baking varieties of buns and breads, and many more baking techniques that are needed in order to be an effective baker and pastry maker. Theoretical and practical training is completed within this six month period. Upon successful completion of the six month course, the student will be awarded the NVQ Level 3 certificate. The student is later allocated to a bakery or a hotel for on-the-job training where they will put to practice what they have learnt.
