Humanitarian Assistance Program

With the crisis situation in Sri Lanka that everyone is now well aware of, many reports have confirmed that children of Sri Lanka are facing malnutrition, educational discontinuance, and issues regarding food security and that as a result of these situations children are being separated from the family.

With all these reports surfacing and having understood the ground situation, SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka initiated the humanitarian assistance program, in September 2022.  As with any crisis, children are disproportionately affected, and as a child welfare organization working for children's rights, we will focus on the basic needs of the individual child - food, education, health, and protection.

Impact Of Humanitarian Assistance Program

This program will benefit 10,000 children from 3,000 families across the country, with the majority coming from the nine districts where SOS Children's Villages already operates.

We’re working with all 9 SOS projects in order to provide food, education, and livelihood. As an immediate step SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka will be providing Relief Assistnace for the first six months and with the new school year that came up we’ve also started providing educational kits to identified children.

Supporting Care Leavers

We have our care leavers who were independent but due to the current crisis situation have lost their jobs and livelihood, and we are supporting them with reskilling to adapt better to new job markets, as well as providing them dry ration packs and the stationary packs.

Initially they’d be provided with dry ration packs. However for selected care leavers’ families we’ll also be providing their children’s educational materials, farming or reskilling training, and dry rations. Notably they are children who are specifically not under the reskilling program conducted by SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka.
